How to Reset a Home Elevator

A home elevator is a fabulous addition to any house and will boost your quality of life from day to day, but what do you do if your lift malfunctions? Although occasional elevator maintenance is necessary for all types of lifts, you can often troubleshoot a home elevator yourself, which might mean you avoid having to call any kind of maintenance or repair company.

If a door closes and does not open after you exit, or you want to fix a stuck elevator door, you can sometimes fix the issue by resetting the lift. Here, we will discuss how to reset a Gartec Home elevator.

Should you follow what we have to say and find that you are still struggling with your residential elevator, you will find more information and help through our lift breakdown services

To prevent the need for a reset at all, use one of our home lift servicing and lift maintenance options. Please contact us if you have any further questions about how to reset a home elevator.

While all models are slightly different, we use many of the same safety features in all of the lifts in our home lift range. The good news is that every home lift comes with an emergency power outage backup system, which will take you safely to the ground or to the nearest floor if there is a fault while you are inside the lift.

Once on the ground, or if the problem occurs while you are not using the lift, you can start the process of resetting the lift. The most important thing to know here is where your external control box or the electrical cabinet is located. It should normally be on the first floor, or the top floor if your lift travels to multiple levels.

Once you have found your control box, call our service team on 01296 397100. After this, a confident and trained member of staff will take you through the following steps:

  • Asking about the nature of the fault and what has happened, and checking that you are okay
  • Finding the fault and determining whether or not a reset is necessary
  • Taking the name and model of the lift and finding details of your installation on our system
  • Guiding you through the reset procedure for your specific lift model, which may vary slightly between designs

If the service team is unable to help you remotely they will send an engineer out to you as soon as possible. Many faults can be prevented by simple, regular maintenance plans.

It can be unnerving to have an issue with your lift, but breakdowns are extremely rare and the automatic lowering of our lifts is designed to give you peace of mind. Please note that we also have a dedicated out of hours service that will make it possible to reset a lift, no matter when a fault might occur.

How Long Does it Take to Reset an Elevator?

The process of resetting the elevator is relatively straightforward and your home lift should be completely reset within 30 seconds. However, the steps of experiencing the fault, finding the control box and talking to our support team can extend how long it takes to reset your lift.

What to Do in an Emergency

If you have an emergency while using the lift, simply hit the emergency stop button. Whether or not this is due to a mechanical fault or another issue, your Gartec Home lift will “auto-home” you to the ground (or nearest) floor. Should you have a continuing emergency you can use the alarm button for emergency calls, which automatically dials when you press it for 10 seconds.

There is no need to worry about using your lift. All Gartec Home lifts have an emergency system in place to deal with power cuts. Learn more about our home lift emergency procedures here.
