Do I Need Home Lift Servicing? | Home Lift Maintenance

The age old question whenever you buy an electrical or mechanical product is “will it really need servicing and maintenance?”

When it comes to home lifts, especially one you rely on for a less able resident or where you live alone, the answer is yes. Read on to see why you need home lift servicing, what it includes, and how we can help.

Why Do I Need Home Lift Servicing?

Home lifts are an electrical appliance in your home. Although you wouldn’t service a kettle or television – which are a lower cost item – you don’t rely on these for day to day life (though a cup of tea can be vital in many situations!). You should think of your home lift like a car, which needs a regular check to make sure it is running correctly.

If you rely on your lift to get up and down the stairs – especially for the less mobile or wheelchair users – then making sure it is running smoothly, safely and efficiently is vital. Home Lift servicing will reduce the chance of any problems in the future. It also gives you peace of mind that all the components and electrical systems are working as they should be.

Spending a little money on regular servicing – which is a great deal if you take out an annual package – could save a lot of money in the future. If a part needs replacing due to minor damage or wear, and you don’t notice or don’t get a service, it could cause bigger problems as it may damage other parts.

What Gets Checked at Home Lift Servicing Visits?

Gartec’s experienced and trained engineers will check a range of items on your home lift, including:

  • Belts and drives
  • Motor
  • Screw and nut system
  • Electrical components
  • Lubrication
  • Smooth operation
  • Spacing, straightness and levelling
  • Door operation (opening, closing, locking)
  • Backup battery
  • Safety edges

How Often do I Need Home Lift Servicing?

Home Lift servicing is usually based on the amount you use the lift. As a general rule, having 2 service visits by a trained engineer is the recommended level of cover. If you rely on your lift, you can have a package that includes more visits than this.

Make sure you know how long your home lift warranty is (with Gartec home lifts, you get 2 years as standard) as this should include servicing. It is after this that you will need to organise a package or know who to call when there is a problem.

At Gartec, our servicing packages come with 2, 3 or 4 visits per year, and can be tailored to your needs.

Packages for servicing also offer other possibilities, such as reduced or included parts and labour. This could help reduce costs if an expensive or large part of the lift needs replacing.

Who Should Do My Home Lift Servicing?

The most important thing to check from your home lift servicing company is that they are trained and competent for the brand of lift you are getting serviced. Ask if they provide servicing for other lifts like yours, and see how big the company is as this will often give you an idea of how comprehensive they will be.

The best option is to speak to the company who sold you the lift. They will often provide servicing (such as Gartec) and if not can always point you in the right direction.

If this isn’t possible, check if the lift manufacturer offers servicing company recommendations or a list of companies who are trained in their lifts.

If you’ve had a look at all of these options but haven’t had any luck, you are always welcome to give our expert servicing team at Gartec a call. We’ll see if we can help with pointing you to the right place for home lift servicing, or potentially we can service your home lift for you.
